Distinctively fragrant and silvery green in colour, the Sage plant is most commonly found in the
area around the Mediterranean, in regions of North America and in many great British recipes. The benefits of
Sage are not just culinary though; It is thought that Sage helps the body adapt to the hormonal changes
involved in menopause and is particularly useful in helping to reduce hot flushes/night
sweats.
The leaves of the herb have traditionally been used for sprains, swellings, ulcers and bleeding and
the herb’s generic name – ‘Salvia’ – bares testament to its perceived medicinal value (Salvia means ‘to heal’
in Latin).
Healthy Direct’s Sage tablets have been formulated using aqueous (water-based) extraction methods rather than
alcohol-based. Using this process means that ‘thujone,’ a volatile oil found in Sage, is excluded from our extract.
When used in excess, thujone can have toxic side effects (it is the potent ingredient in the controversial
alcoholic drink ‘Absinthe.’ Each tablet contains the equivalent to 2,000mg of Whole Sage
Leaf.
Benefits
• May significantly reduce menopausal symptoms, chiefly, hot flushes/night sweats
• Extracted using water-based methods, thereby excluding the volatile oil ‘thujone’ (the potent ingredient
in the controversial drink ‘Absinthe’).
